Boost Your Confidence, Improve Your Life
Losing several teeth can be a devastating thing for many patients. We need our teeth in order to function optimally, to support surrounding bone, and to feel confident about our smiles. Thankfully, patients who are missing some or all of their teeth can benefit from dentures!
A wonderful investment; dentures are removable appliances that are custom-created to perfectly fit a patient’s mouth and restore their smile. When a patient is ready to get dentures, the dentist will take impressions of the patient’s mouth and will work with a lab technician to create dentures that will fit just right.
A Better Life with Dentures
Dentures can improve a patient’s quality of life in a number of ways. Dentures can:
- Improve chewing and digestion
- Improve speech
- Improve a patient’s appearance by creating a fuller smile and preventing the sagging of facial muscles
- Boost confidence and self-esteem
The types of dentures offered here at our Toronto dental clinic include:
Complete (Full) Dentures
This type of denture is ideal for patients with all teeth missing. They simply rest on the gum line of the upper and lower jaws, and are removable. Full dentures are typically created from a strong acrylic material.
Removable Partial Dentures
Alternatively referred to as “partialsâ€, removable partial dentures fit around a patient’s existing natural teeth and restore areas with missing teeth. The existing teeth essentially act as anchors to support the denture and hold it securely in place. A partial denture often consists of acrylic teeth and gums and a thin cast metallic framework. Partial dentures are the less costly option when compared to implants or fixed bridges. They should be removed every night and cleaned along with the patient’s existing teeth.
Caring for Your Dentures
Patients should always be kind to their dentures to keep them in top condition for as long as possible. Dentures should be gently brushed (without toothpaste) every day, and stored in water or a special denture cleanser solution overnight. Be sure to avoid placing your dentures in hot water, as this could damage them. Dentures should also be rinsed after every meal.
